Introduction to the four steps of service provision

Topic Progress:

Assistive products need to be provided through an organized service.

TAP introduces four essential steps for the safe and effective provision of assistive products. Together, these steps help to make sure that a person:

  • Has the most suitable assistive product for their needs, from those available
  • Has information and skills to look after and use their assistive product safely and well
  • Has follow up support to make sure the assistive product is still meeting their needs, or is replaced when necessary.

The four steps of assistive product service provision are:

  1. Select the product that best meets the person’s needs.
  2. Fit the assistive product.
  3. Teach the person how to use and look after the assistive product.
  4. Follow up, including basic repairs and maintenance.
