Hearing aids

Module details

This module teaches primary health and community workers to provide a safe and effective hearing aid service for adults and children.

Module duration:  3.5 hours online, followed by supervised practice as needed.

Before you start, check that you have completed these modules:

Restricted module

This module is currently being tested and reviewed. It is under restricted access.

Resources you will need

Hearing test:

  • Audiometer and noise cancelling headphones
  • Quiet room
  • Selection of programmable and pre-programmed hearing aids, including different sizes of earmoulds and spare batteries
  • Fitting tables for locally available hearing aids

Hearing aid fitting:

  • Earmoulds in different sizes
  • Spare earmould tube
  • Scissors
  • Pen

Ling sounds:

  • Card showing Ling sounds
  • Card to cover tester’s mouth during Ling sounds test

Hearing aid checks/care:

  • Listening tube (stetoclip)
  • Cleaning kit including brush, wire, cloth
  • Container with soapy water and paper towel to clean and dry earmould head
  • Hearing aid storage (dehumidifier container)
